Since August 2008 the company Teak Holz Handels- und Verarbeitungs GmbH (TEAK austria) holds a so-called „chain-of-custody”-certificate, which permits the company to trade FSCTM-wood worldwide.

Teak Holz Handels- und Verarbeitungs GmbH is responsible for the global distribution of the teak wood within THI-group and is authorized to trade and process the FSCTM-wood over the whole chain of custody, plus brand these products with the FSCTM-logo. So consumer and costumer have the guarantee, receiving wood “from well managed forests”.

With austrian forestry-know-how the Servicios Austriacos UNO, S.A. (100% THI-subsidiary company, domiciled in Costa Rica) transfers plantation-management-skills to CR. Under consistent attention of ecological-social standards and economic requirements, Premium-teakwood is planted and cultivated at the pacific coast. Since November 2008 four of the THI-plantations Finca Uno, Finca Dos, Finca de la Teca and Finca Naranjal have been certified. 850 ha meet the ten FSCTM-principles and the associated forestry criterion.

In April 2009 the scope of the certificate was extended from forest management to forest management plus "chain-of-custody". Serivicios Austriacos UNO S.A. is thus now able to sell certified wood of these plantations.


“The certificates confirm our forestry knowledge, which we have acquired in previous years for the engagements in the plantations in Costa Rica. Thanks go to all participants and organizations, plus the shareholders for the confidence. The award is also our application for the future, to promote the THI-growth-strategy effective, Klaus Hennerbichler, board member (COO) of the THI, comments.

The certification was audited by the international environmental protection organization Rainforest Alliance (SmartWood Program). The certificates are now valid for five years. Rainforest Alliance is going to audit the FSC-principles recurrently.

 


What is FSCTM?
Forest Stewardship Council (FSCTM) is an international, charitable and independent organization in advancement responsible forest management with domiciled in Bonn (Germany) and national working groups in more than 46 countries. The Forest Stewardship Council was established 1993 due to Earth summit of Rio de Janeiro. Aim is to the dismiss advancements in Rio in “effective development” about forests reset. Especially impact in line with these advancements has equivalent allowance of social, ecological and commercial aspects for the use of natural assets. The organization will be supported of ecological organization, social organization and numerous of companies.

Rainforest Alliance (SmartWood Program):
The Rainforest Alliance is an international ecological organization and was established 1987. Since more than twenty years it has obtained the engagement of the protection biodiversity, assurance of the rights and the welfare of the worker and their village community. Forestry companies which achieve the blanket standards of the Rainforest Alliance and the associated partner organizations, obtain a certificate. Labeled products, coming from certified factories, are demanded more and more by companies and customers in North and South America, Europe and Asia.
