Teak heartwood and teak sapwood are homogenous in terms of their mechanical characteristics (POSCH et.al. 2004).
Teak heartwood and teak sapwood have an almost identical swelling and shrinkage ratio, which is why the sap does not slate from the core, as is frequently observed with domestic wood types, such as oak.

Teak (Tectona Grandis Lf.) is a fast-growing type of hardwood. It is a type of half-ring-porous wood (cf. domestic half-ring-porous types such as cherry) that generates both heart and sap. In tropical areas, nucleation takes place in the dry seasons.

Teak is famous and highly esteemed for its durability and longevity in outdoor applications. TEAK austria is experienced and skilled in processing and mounting plantation teak outdoor applications.
Plantation teak excels in outdoor applications and can be used for a wide range of applications (see "Scope of Application").

Processing teak wood is hardly ever problematic or difficult. Variations in structures and handling irregularities can lead to tensions and cants, of course. Due to fine mineral inclusions, saw blades blunt more easily than with most domestic hardwoods.
Drying of solid wood and veneers should be conducted slowly and is unproblematic. Dried teak is idimensionally stable.

Teak can be glued with a number of adhesion systems that have been tested by TEAK austria's R&D Department. For further information and details, please contact

Teak wood ban be technically dried according to a special drying process. TEAK austria is experienced in technically drying teak and the R&D Department currently works on continually improving and refining renowned drying procedures.

Over the years, outdoor teak surfaces grow silky and grey. Teak does not yield any slates due to its particular anatomy. Contaminated ambient air (containing pollens, respirable dust, flue ashes etc.) can cause surface stains or impurities, of course. These stains, however, can easily be removed with cleaning agents (available via our website).

Teak is known to be one of the most crack-free types of wood due to the small swelling and shrinkage ratios. Nevertheless, teak is a natural product and minor cracks are possible.
